Shopian, Jan 26 (JKNS): The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at Shopian. The main function was held at the district headquarters, where a large gathering of officials, public representatives, students, and citizens took part.
DDC Chairperson Bilqees Jan unfurled the National Flag amid the rendition of the National Anthem. She inspected the parade and took the ceremonial march past. Parade contingents included police personnel, security forces, NCC cadets, and school students, who presented a disciplined and impressive display.
After the march past, colourful cultural programmes were presented by students from various educational institutions. The performances reflected the spirit of unity, sacrifice, and constitutional values. Patriotic songs and dances drew appreciation from the audience.
Addressing the gathering, speakers paid tributes to the freedom fighters and the makers of the Constitution. They highlighted the significance of Republic Day and urged citizens to uphold democratic values, unity, and integrity. Emphasis was laid on peace, development, and inclusive growth of the district.
Senior officers of the district administration, heads of departments, representatives of civil society, and members of the public were present on the occasion. The event concluded with renewed resolve to work collectively for progress and prosperity of Shopian. (JKNS)
