Shopian, Jan 30 (JKNS): Following viral videos showing horses roaming freely on roads and in market areas of Shopian, the Tehsildar Shopian has issued a strict order directing horse owners to immediately remove their animals from public places, warning of stringent action against violators.
In a notice issued by the Office of the Tehsildar Shopian as per news agency JKNS, it was stated that several horses have been found roaming freely within Shopian town, particularly in busy market areas and on public roads, causing traffic congestion, obstructing the movement of vehicles and pedestrians, and posing a serious threat to public safety.
The notice termed the unchecked roaming of horses as a public nuisance and contrary to law, adding that it has been causing inconvenience to commuters, shopkeepers, and the general public. All owners and keepers of horses have been directed to ensure that their animals are removed from town limits and are not allowed to roam freely within 24 hours of the issuance of the notice.
The administration has warned that failure to comply within the stipulated time will invite legal action. In such cases, the horses will be taken into custody by the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Shopian, and further action, including auction or any other lawful measure, will be initiated as per rules in force.
The notice further clarifies that no further notice will be issued and that any loss, damage, or legal consequences arising due to non-compliance will be the sole responsibility of the concerned horse owners.
The order has been issued in the interest of public safety, smooth traffic regulation, and maintenance of public order, and has been directed to be given wide publicity for strict compliance. (JKNS)
