New Delhi, Feb 1 (JKNS): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday announced that the Unioin Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be developed for ecologically sustainable mountain trails under the Union Budget 2026-27.
As per news agency JKNS, Presenting the Budget in Parliament, Sitharaman said the initiative aims to promote responsible tourism while safeguarding fragile mountain ecosystems, adding that similar projects will be undertaken in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The Finance Minister further stated that eco-tourism initiatives will also be extended to the Araku Valley in the Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats as part of a broader conservation-focused tourism plan.
She also announced the development of turtle trails at key nesting sites in Odisha, Karnataka and Kerala to strengthen wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism efforts. (JKNS)
