Kokernag, Feb 3 (JKNS): Cook cum helpers on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest at Kokernag, raising serious concerns over their minimum wages.
The protesting workers said that despite working for years under the Mid Day Meal scheme, they are being paid very low honorariums, which are insufficient to meet basic household needs.
Holding placards and raising slogans, the cook cum helpers demanded an immediate hike in wages, timely payment of pending dues, and recognition of their hard work.
They said that rising inflation has made survival difficult on the current pay structure.
The protesters appealed to Education Minister Sakina Itoo and concerned authorities to look into their long-pending demands at the earliest. (JKNS)
