Jammu Feb 12 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the 69th National School Games in Thang-Ta Martial Arts, held at Tyagraj Stadium, New Delhi.

After their return, the medalists were accorded a warm welcome by the Director General, Youth Services and Sports Anuradha Gupta, along with the Deputy Director (Activities) Megha Baogia who congratulated the players and coaches for their remarkable achievements and assured them of continued support.

The J&K players secured several medals across different age groups.

The medal winners included Amaan Yaseen of Ganderbal (U-19 Boys- Gold), Saliqul Islam of Anantnag (U-17 Boys-Gold), Muskaan Majeed of Pulwama (U-19 Girls-Silver), Zubair Hussain of Kulgam (U-17 Boys-Silver), Hammad Bashir of Pulwama (U-19 Boys-Silver), Sumairah Aashiq of Pulwama (U-19 Girls-Silver), Asra Tahir of Shopian (U-19 Girls-Silver), Khushboo Ishaq of Anantnag (U-19 Girls-Silver), Syeda Nazakat of Ganderbal (U-14 Girls-Bronze), Sadiya Naseer of Ganderbal (U-14 Girls-Bronze), Suhail Saleem of Ganderbal (U-14 Boys-Bronze), Umer Farooq of Srinagar (U-14 Boys-Bronze), Basit Maqbool of Ganderbal (U-14 Boys-Bronze), Murteza Iqbal of Pulwama (U-19 Boys-Bronze), and Masifa Mushtaq of Pulwama (U-17 Girls-Bronze). Interestingly in the U-19 Girls category, Muskaan also won a Gold Medal in the Ball Event, while Manya secured two Silver Medals in the Ribbon and All-Around events.

In the U-17 category, Vaibhav Sharma won one Gold Medal in the Hoop Event and two Silver Medals in the All-Around and Team Events, along with Aditya Choudhary and Triza Balal Thapa. In Gymnastics (U-17 and U-19 Boys and Girls), the J&K team further strengthened its performance by winning two Gold and four Silver medals.

The U-19 team was coached by Kamal Singh, while the U-17 team was guided by Seema Mehra. The overall in-charge of the contingent, Neeru Jabalia, played a vital role in ensuring the smooth participation and success of the team.

DG YSS while appreciating the dedication, discipline, and hard work of the players and coaches said that such performances would inspire more young athletes to take up sports and bring further glory to the UT. (JKNS)
