New Delhi, Feb 12 (JKNS): The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has issued fresh guidelines directing that the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ be played before the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ at all government functions and in educational institutions across the country.

As per the new rules notified on Wednesday as per news agency JKNS, it will be mandatory for all persons present to stand when ‘Vande Mataram’ is played, similar to the protocol observed during the national anthem.

The revised guidelines also provide for the inclusion of four stanzas that had previously not been part of the standard rendition, a move that is expected to trigger political debate.

According to the document, the objective of the directive is to ensure uniformity in observance and to accord due respect to the national song during official ceremonies and school functions.

The development comes amid renewed political discussion over the status and rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’, an issue that had witnessed sharp exchanges between major political parties last year.

Officials said the guidelines are aimed at streamlining protocol and reinforcing respect for national symbols during public and institutional events. Further details regarding implementation mechanisms are expected to be issued by concerned departments. (JKNS)
