Srinagar, Feb 12 (JKNS): Hundreds of daily wagers Thursday staged a massive protest sit-in at Sher-e-Kashmir Park here, demanding immediate regularisation and clarity on the recently announced policy.
Men, women and children participated in the demonstration, holding placards reading “We Demand Justice,” “more than 15 Years Have Passed, How Long Will We Wait?” and “We Have Given Our Lives, Now Give Us Our Rights.” Protesters also urged the government to respect the sacrifices made by daily wagers in public service.
Addressing the gathering, EJAC General Secretary Sajad Ahmad Parray questioned the government over the implementation details of the regularisation policy.
He sought clarification on how many phases the regularisation process would be carried out in and whether daily wagers would be granted all benefits available to permanent employees.
Parray also raised concerns about workers who have retired or lost their lives while in service, asking whether the policy includes provisions for their families.
“We want clear answers. The policy has been announced, but what about those who were not included in previous committee reports, including SDF, consolidated and other categories of employees? Are they covered under this policy?” he asked.
The EJAC leader further announced that employees would march to the office of JNC on February 16 at 10 am to seek a formal clarification on the promises made to them.
“We will go there and seek answers regarding the commitments made to us. I urge all employees to assemble at the office on the 16th at 10 am,” he said.
The protest concluded peacefully, with employees reiterating that they would continue their agitation until concrete steps are taken to address their long-pending demands. (JKNS)
