Budgam Police Arrests Drug Peddler; Contraband Seized

Budgam, February 14, 2026:Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, Budgam Police arrested a drug peddler and seized contraband in the Beerwah area of the district.

A police party from Police Station Beerwah, led by HC Mohammad Ayaz, during routine Naka checking near the Service Station at Beerwah, intercepted a suspicious individual. On noticing the police presence, the individual attempted to flee but was promptly apprehended.

During his personal search, approximately 59 grams of charas-like substance, wrapped in corn husk, was recovered from his possession. The accused was arrested on the spot, and the contraband was seized in accordance with due legal procedures.

The arrested individual has been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Hameed Bhat, a resident of Sunergund, Budgam. In this regard, FIR No. 23/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Beerwah, and further investigation is in progress.

Budgam Police reaffirm their commitment to combating drug trafficking and urge the public to share information to help build a drug-free society.
