Jammu, Feb 14 (JKNS): Marking a decisive push towards academic transformation in Jammu & Kashmir’s higher education sector, Director Colleges Dr. Sheikh Aijaz Bashir formally launched the ambitious SCALE (Student Connect for Academic Leverage and Excellence) Initiative at PSPS Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhinagar Jammu.

As per news agency JKNS, The SCALE Initiative Student Connect for Academic Leverage and Excellence launched by the Higher Education Department, Jammu & Kashmir, was successfully conducted at PSPS Government College for Women, Gandhinagar Jammu.

The programme marks an important milestone in the phased implementation of this student-centric academic reform, with enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members.

The SCALE Initiative is the brainchild and visionary concept of Director Colleges, Dr. Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, aimed at building a structured, technology-enabled academic support and mentoring ecosystem across colleges. Under his leadership, a dedicated team has been constituted to systematically implement and strengthen this initiative across all colleges of Jammu division as well as the Kashmir Valley.

The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a formal welcome address by Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Principal and guiding force of the College, who welcomed the gathering and set the tone for the proceedings.

Director Colleges Dr. Sheikh Aijaz Bashir attended as the Chief Guest and conducted an extensive and highly interactive session with students and faculty.

Following a similarly impactful interaction at Women’s College Parade, Jammu, he continued his outreach at GCW Gandhinagar through an open and memorable dialogue with students, motivating them to actively use academic digital platforms such as SCALE and SIGMA as their academic guides and support systems.

In his nearly three-hour detailed presentation and interaction, he elaborated upon the objectives of the SCALE initiative and explained key features of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), including the Mentor–Mentee Scheme, Academic Bank of Credits, academic flexibility, and multiple entry and exit options.

He also addressed syllabus structure, major and minor subject choices, timetable systems, college infrastructure, sports facilities, hostel arrangements, and academic terminology.

He invited direct feedback from students on a wide range of institutional issues, including classrooms, washrooms, drinking water, electricity, medical facilities, and other campus need, and assured them of prompt redressal.

He also expressed his intent to hold separate focused sessions with students so they can freely share their individual problems and academic concerns.

During the visit, the Director Colleges issued necessary academic and administrative directions to faculty members and Heads of Departments, and carefully noted the practical difficulties faced by teachers, assuring supportive and timely measures.

The programme was successfully conducted under the Convenorship of Dr. Rabia Javed along with the organising team — Prof. Liaqat Jafri, Prof. Iqbal Qasim, Prof. Sandeep Sharma, Prof. Suman Bala, Prof. Rukhsana Kouser, Prof. Amjed Bhatti, Prof. Monika Hans, Ranjan Dubey, Paras, Daljit Singh, and Lavanya Jamwal.
