Jammu, Feb 17 (JKNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has appointed Shantmanu, IAS (Retd.), as the State Election Commissioner for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In an official notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, it has been stated that in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (3) of Section 36 of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, the Lieutenant Governor has appointed Shri Shantmanu as the State Election Commissioner under the said Act.
The notification further states that he shall hold the office for a period of five years or till he attains the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier.
It also mentions that the appointment shall take effect from the date he assumes charge, while the terms and conditions of his appointment will be notified separately by the Government. (JKNS)
