New Delhi, Feb 20 (JKNS): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has instructed Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of multiple States and Union Territories, including Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, to complete preparatory arrangements for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
ECI in an official communication as per news agency JKNS, the Commission stated that the Special Intensive Revision exercise is scheduled to begin from April 2026 in the concerned States and UTs.
The Commission recalled that it had earlier issued an order on June 24, 2025, directing the conduct of SIR across all States and UTs. Subsequently, through a communication dated July 5, 2025, CEOs except Bihar were asked to initiate pre-revision activities. Later, on October 27, 2025, the Commission announced commencement of the SIR process in 12 States/UTs, where the exercise is currently in progress.
In its latest directive, the poll body has urged all concerned Chief Electoral Officers to ensure timely completion of preparatory work to facilitate smooth implementation of the revision process.
The Special Intensive Revision is aimed at updating and refining electoral rolls to ensure accuracy and transparency in the electoral system. (JKNS)
