Srinagar, Feb 26 (JKNS): A massive fire broke out at the HMT Industrial Area in Srinagar on Wednesday night, completely gutting a cotton factory and triggering a large-scale firefighting operation.
An official told news agency JKNS that, a fire call was received at the State Fire Control Room Srinagar, following which Fire Station Mujgund was immediately pressed into service. Upon reaching the spot, fire personnel found the cotton factory fully engulfed in flames.
In view of the magnitude of the blaze, additional reinforcements were rushed from Fire Station JVC Veer. The Fire & Emergency Services Headquarters also deployed water bowsers and foam tenders to strengthen containment efforts and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent industrial units.
Firefighting teams are working tirelessly to douse the flames, and the situation is being closely monitored.
The operation is being carried out under the overall supervision of ADGP Fire & Emergency Services Alok Kumar, while Deputy Director F&ES Dr. Mir Aqib Hussain and Mobilising Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah are overseeing on-ground efforts.
The cause of the fire and the exact extent of damage are yet to be ascertained. No reports of casualties have been received so far. (JKNS)
