Srinagar, Mar 4 (JKNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to express their grief and emotions peacefully, stressing that maintaining peace and communal harmony must remain the top priority.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with civil society members and senior religious leaders at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre, Omar Abdullah, as per news agency JKNS, said the gathering was convened to deliberate on the prevailing situation and explore ways to preserve peace and brotherhood in the Valley.

Referring to the recent attack in Iran and reports about the killing of its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, the Chief Minister expressed condolences and extended sympathies to those affected.

He also conveyed his condolences to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“We may express our anger, grief and feelings whether in our mosques, shrines or imambaras but wherever we do so, it must be done peacefully,” the Chief Minister said.

He thanked civil society representatives and religious leaders for their cooperation and said a collective appeal has been issued urging people to maintain calm.

He expressed hope that the message of peace would resonate across Jammu and Kashmir. —(JKNS)
