Shopian, Mar 4 (JKNS): In a significant step towards strengthening the fisheries sector and enhancing the income of local fishermen, Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone on Wednesday distributed 37 ice boxes among beneficiaries of the Fisheries Department under the Jammu & Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement Project (JKCIP) here at Mini Secretariat, Shopian.

The distribution aims to support local fishermen and fish farmers by ensuring proper preservation and transportation of fish, thereby enhancing quality, reducing post-harvest losses and improving market returns.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADDC emphasized the importance of modern facilities and government support in strengthening the fisheries sector and boosting the income of farmers associated with the trade.

The initiative marks another step towards promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities and empowering the fishing community in the district.
