Banihal, March 12: (JKNS) A four-day self-defence training programme for girl students concluded at Government Degree College Banihal. The programme was organised by the college in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports Ramban.
The initiative was held in connection with the celebration of Women Empowerment Day and in accordance with directions issued by the Department of Higher Education, Jammu and Kashmir.
The programme was held under the patronage of Dr. Sunil Kumar Bhat, Principal, GDC Banihal. On the occasion, he appreciated the efforts of the trainers and thanked the Department of Youth Services and Sports Ramban for their support in successfully conducting the programme. He emphasized that such initiatives play an important role in empowering girl students with essential life skills and promoting a culture of safety and self-confidence.
Dr. Shafiq Ahmed Katoch stated that self-defence training is essential for young women as it helps them build confidence, develop awareness about their surroundings, and equips them with practical skills to protect themselves in challenging situations. He added that such initiatives contribute significantly to the overall personality development and empowerment of girl students.
During the four-day training programme, various training sessions were conducted by experts in which girl students from different classes actively participated. The sessions helped equip them with practical self-defence skills and enhanced their confidence.
The training sessions focused on basic self-defence techniques, building confidence and situational awareness, and improving overall physical fitness and mental preparedness among the participants.
The programme was conducted by experienced trainers from the Department of Youth Services and Sports Ramban. (JKNS)
