Jammu, Mar 11 (JKNS): A gunshot was fired during a wedding ceremony in Jammu on Wednesday evening while Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary were present at the event, triggering a brief security scare.
Official sources told news agency JKNS that the person who fired the shot was quickly overpowered and taken into custody by police. Preliminary information suggests that the accused was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Both Farooq Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary are reported to be safe, official sources said.
In a statement, J&K Police said, “An incident of firing was reported at a function where JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah and Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary were present. One person has been arrested. More details awaited.” Further investigation into the matter is underway. (JKNS)
