New Delhi, Mar 13 (JKNS): Members of Parliament from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Friday met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan and submitted a memorandum highlighting several important issues concerning the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a statement issued by the party, as pwr news agency JKNS, NC Rajya Sabha MPs Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo and Shammi Oberoi called on the President and discussed matters related to the political and economic interests of the region.

During the meeting, the MPs urged the early restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the assurances given in Parliament. They also stressed the need to safeguard the land and job rights of local residents and sought a comprehensive economic and employment package to address the growing unemployment among the youth.

The MPs further demanded that major hydroelectric power projects currently operated by NHPC Limited be returned to Jammu and Kashmir so that the region could benefit from its own natural resources.

They also raised concerns about environmental challenges in the region, particularly the effects of climate change and the rapid melting of glaciers including the Kolahoi Glacier, and called for immediate scientific and policy measures to protect the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. (JKNS)
