Jammu, Mar 14 (JKNS): Inspector general of Police Jammu have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the attempted firing incident involving former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah in Jammu earlier this week.

According to an order issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the incident occurred on March 11 when Abdullah, also the president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, was attending a wedding function at Royal Park Banquet Hall in the Greater Kailash area of the city.

Police said that at around 10:10 pm, while the protectee was leaving the venue, an individual allegedly brandished a revolver and attempted to fire from close range. However, the attempt was thwarted due to the timely intervention of security personnel deployed with the leader.

Following the incident, a case under FIR No. 29/2026 under Section 109 of the BNS and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act was registered at Gangyal Police Station, Jammu.

Given the seriousness of the matter, an SIT has been formed under the supervision of the DIG JSK Range to carry out a detailed investigation. The team includes senior officers such as SSP Sanjay Sharma, SP Headquarters Jammu Irshad Hussain Rather, DySP Arvind Kumar Sambyal, and other officials.

The order issued by Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti directed the SIT to conduct a comprehensive probe and complete the investigation within the stipulated timeframe. (JKNS)
