Shopian, Mar 15 (JKNS): In anticipation of the auspicious festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Food Safety Department Shopian carried out a comprehensive market inspection across the localities of Killora, Krawora, and Traperpora within the jurisdiction of Shopian District on Sunday.
The inspection drive was undertaken with the primary objective of ensuring strict adherence to food safety standards and safeguarding public health during the heightened commercial activity associated with the upcoming festive celebrations.
During the inspection, special focus was laid on establishments dealing with commonly consumed food items, including bread makers, mutton shops, bakery units, and vegetable vendors.
The inspection team conducted a thorough scrutiny of food handling practices, storage conditions, and the quality of food items being offered for sale.
During the course of the inspection, certain expired snack items were found in the possession of some Food Business Operators (FBOs).
In order to prevent any potential risk to consumer health, the expired food articles were immediately seized and destroyed on the spot.
Furthermore, three Food Business Operators were found to be in violation of the stipulated food safety regulations.Consequently, they were penalized under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act). (JKNS)
