Poonch, Mar 25 (JKNS): In a significant step towards reinforcing grassroots-level confidence and strengthening civil-military synergy in the Pir Panjal region, the Indian Army conducted a high-impact interaction with members of the Gujjar and Bakarwal communities at Battalion Headquarters, Draba on 25 March 2026.

Organised under the aegis of Headquarters Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo) along with local formations, the interaction was not just a routine outreach but a clear demonstration of the Army’s unwavering commitment to winning hearts and ensuring inclusive development in remote and sensitive areas.

The event was marked by the esteemed presence of Brigadier H.S. Dhillon, Commander, 6 Sector RR, and Brigadier Vidur Ji Sharma, Commander, 12 Sector RR. Their leadership and direct engagement with the community sent a strong message of accessibility, accountability, and solidarity with the people of the region.

In an atmosphere of openness and trust, over 230 members of the Gujjar and Bakarwal communities actively participated, voicing their concerns, aspirations, and ground realities. Critical issues such as access to quality education, healthcare facilities, livelihood opportunities, veterinary support for livestock, and infrastructure development were discussed in detail.

The Army provided a transparent and responsive platform, assuring timely support and highlighting ongoing and future welfare initiatives. Special emphasis was laid on youth engagement programs, employment avenues, skill development, and effective grievance redressal systems aimed at empowering the younger generation and ensuring long-term stability.

Reaffirming its role beyond security, the Indian Army reiterated its dedication to the socio-economic upliftment of these nomadic communities, recognising their indispensable role in preserving the cultural identity and resilience of the region.

The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive. Members expressed deep appreciation for the Army’s consistent outreach and proactive support, and pledged continued cooperation in maintaining peace, stability, and harmony in the area.

The interaction concluded on a strong and hopeful note with a shared vision of progress, unity, and peace. This engagement stands as yet another testament to the Indian Army’s commitment to not only safeguarding borders but also building enduring relationships with the people it serves. (JKNS)
