Akhnoor, Mar 27 (JKNS): Minister for FCS&CA, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, IT, Science and Technology, Satish Sharma today attended the annual Mela/congregation at the revered Chib Dev Sthan at Nud, Akhnoor, where he joined thousands of devotees in celebrating the rich cultural and spiritual traditions of the region.

The Minister was accorded a warm welcome by local residents, members of the mela organizing committee, religious heads, and prominent citizens.

The annual congregation witnessed a large turnout of devotees from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting the deep-rooted faith and enduring legacy associated with the historic shrine.

On the occasion, Satish Sharma paid obeisance at the sacred site and prayed for peace, prosperity, and well-being of the people. He also took part in the traditional rituals and interacted with devotees, gaining firsthand insight into the customs and practices that have been preserved and passed down through generations.

Speaking on the occasion ,the Minister underscored the importance of safeguarding Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage, stating that such melas and congregations are living embodiments of the region’s age-old traditions, beliefs, and collective identity.

He said that these events not only hold religious significance but also serve as vital platforms for preserving indigenous customs, rituals, and folklore that define the unique cultural fabric of the region.

“Events like the Chib Dev Sthan Mela are a reflection of our deep cultural roots and shared heritage. They play a crucial role in preserving traditional values, strengthening community bonds, and passing on our rich legacy to future generations,” the Minister said.

Satish Sharma further emphasized that in an era of rapid modernization, it becomes imperative to protect and promote such traditional gatherings, ensuring that the essence of local culture, rituals, and community practices remains intact. He highlighted the need for collective efforts involving the government, local communities, and cultural organizations to document, preserve, and promote these traditions in a sustainable manner.

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment towards the preservation and promotion of cultural and religious heritage sites across Jammu and Kashmir.

He stated that focused initiatives are being undertaken to enhance infrastructure, improve accessibility, and provide better facilities for pilgrims and tourists visiting such important sites, while ensuring that the sanctity and authenticity of these places are maintained.

He also appreciated the role of local communities in keeping these traditions alive through their active participation and dedication. “The spirit of devotion and community participation seen here is truly inspiring and speaks volumes about the resilience of our cultural ethos,” he added.

The Minister directed the concerned authorities to continue extending all necessary support for the smooth and organized conduct of such events in the future, with special attention to maintaining cleanliness, safety, and basic amenities for the visiting devotees.

The locals and organizers expressed their gratitude to the Minister for his presence and for acknowledging the significance of preserving local traditions and rituals. They also shared various concerns and developmental needs of the area, to which the Minister assured prompt consideration.

The event concluded with traditional ceremonies, devotional performances, and cultural activities, showcasing the vibrant heritage and enduring traditions of the region, while reinforcing the importance of preserving Jammu and Kashmir’s unique cultural identity for generations to come. (JKNS)
