Kashmiri Adaptation of “Doctor Faustus” Enthralls Audience at IUST on World Theatre Day

Srinagar, Mar 28 (JKNS): A Kashmiri theatre play titled “Doctor Faustus” was successfully staged on the occasion of World Theatre Day, 27th March 2026, at the Nundreshi Auditorium, Islamic University of Science and Technology.

The event was jointly organised by the Young Dramatists Society and the Habba Khatoon Centre for Kashmiri Language and Literature in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages.

Originally written by Christopher Marlowe, the play was presented in Kashmiri through translation and stage adaptation by Dr. Sohan Lal Koul. The production was directed by Altaf Hussain, with design contributions from Mushtaq Baqal and Syed Javid Gilani. Music for the play was composed by Imran Latief.

 

On the occasion, Dr. Afshana (Coordinator, HKCKLL), Dr. Bisati, Dr. Syed Iftikhar Ahmad (JKAACL), Dr. Gulzar Rather (JKAACL), and music composer Imran Latief were felicitated by HKCKLL (IUST) for their valuable contributions.

 

Mohammad shafi khan sayil Arjmand Andrabi , Sheikh Shuja, Fatima Sheikh , Mehar Shafi , Sana Khan, fida , sabir rather , Usama bin kondroo , numan manzoor , munazah yousuf, wasaqat mehraj, galib rashid , shamiq parvaiz, shabzah malik , moomin bashir.

 

The performance witnessed a large and enthusiastic audience, particularly students from IUST. The play not only captivated the audience but also served as an inspiration for young students to actively participate in theatre and cultural activities. (JKNS)
