New Delhi, Mar 29 (JKNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised India’s sporting achievements, highlighting the country’s T20 World Cup victory and Jammu and Kashmir’s historic Ranji Trophy win.

Speaking in the 132nd episode of Mann Ki Baat, as per news agency JKNS, the Prime Minister said, “This month has been full of excitement and enthusiasm for cricket fans across the country. When India achieved a historic victory in the T20 World Cup, a wave of joy swept across the country. We are all very proud of our team’s thumping success.”

Referring to Jammu and Kashmir’s achievement, he said, “By winning this match, the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team secured for themselves the Ranji Trophy. It is most heartening to note that after a long wait of nearly seven decades, the team achieved its first Ranji Trophy title.”

He also underlined the growing participation of youth in diverse sports, stating, “I am happy to see that our country’s youth are now embracing sports that were not as popular before. Gulveer Singh, a talented athlete from Uttar Pradesh, has done wonders in one such sport.”

On 28th February 2026, Jammu and Kashmir created history by winning India’s premier first-class domestic cricket title for the first time. The triumph marks a remarkable turnaround for a team that had long been considered underdogs in the 67-year history of the Ranji Trophy.

Fast bowler Auqib Nabi’s stellar performance with the ball, combined with centuries from Shubham Pundir in the first innings and Qamran Iqbal in the second, helped Jammu and Kashmir edge past a strong Karnataka side to claim the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy title. (JKNS)
