Jammu, Apr 2 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that he will personally engage with his Punjab counterpart to ensure that commitments made under the Shahpur Kandi dam agreement are honoured.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, as per news agency JKNS, Chief Minister Omar said that the 1979 agreement between the governments of Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab is a sovereign commitment and cannot be disregarded.
He asserted that the understanding was not between individuals but between two governments, and therefore carries binding responsibility. “There is no question of backtracking from the pact,” he said, adding that he will remind and persuade the Punjab government to fulfil its obligations.
Omar Abdullah reiterated that he will raise the matter at his own level and seek adherence to the agreed terms concerning the Shahpur Kandi project. (JKNS)
