Shopian, Apr 6 (JKNS): In a continued effort to enhance road safety and enforce strict adherence to traffic norms, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Shopian on Monday carried out an extensive enforcement drive across various parts of the district.
The drive was conducted under the directions of the Transport Commissioner and under the close supervision of ARTO Shopian, Dr. Showkat Ahmad Bhat (JKAS). A well-coordinated team comprising Motor Vehicle Inspectors Waheed Ul Islam and Udyat Singh Jamwal, along with Motor Vehicle Traffic Assistants Aadil Ahmad Parray, Raiz Ahmad and other officials, participated in the operation.
During the drive, naka points were strategically established at multiple locations to ensure thorough and systematic checking of vehicles. Officials inspected documents, checked compliance with safety regulations, and took strict action against violators under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
As a result of the enforcement, 35 challans were issued against violators, with a fine amount of ₹61,000 expected to be realized. In addition, 10 driving licences were recommended for suspension due to serious violations, while 23 vehicles were blacklisted for repeated offences. The authorities also seized two vehicles found involved in major violations.
The department stated that such drives will be intensified in the coming days to curb traffic violations and promote a culture of responsible driving. It also appealed to the general public to strictly follow traffic rules, carry valid documents, and cooperate with enforcement agencies in the interest of ensuring safer roads across the district.
