Sopore, Apr 8 (JKNS): Mukhtar Ahmad Wani, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) and District Horticulture Officer Baramulla, today spoke with JKNS and issued an important advisory for apple growers regarding the next spray schedule for orchards in light of the ongoing inclement weather conditions across the Kashmir region.

Speaking on the matter, Wani highlighted that continuous unfavourable weather over the past several days has created conditions conducive to the spread of fungal diseases in apple orchards. He emphasized that growers must remain vigilant and take timely preventive measures to safeguard their crops.

He advised orchardists to closely monitor weather forecasts and wait for a suitable dry window before carrying out the next spray.

The use of recommended fungicides should be ensured as per the advisory issued by the Department of Horticulture. Proper spray techniques, including adequate coverage and adherence to dosage guidelines, were also stressed to achieve effective disease control.

Wani further urged farmers to maintain orchard sanitation, remove infected plant debris, and ensure proper drainage to minimise disease incidence during this prolonged wet spell.

The Department of Horticulture remains committed to supporting apple growers and will continue to provide timely guidance based on evolving weather conditions.

For further information, orchardists are encouraged to stay in touch with their nearest horticulture offices. (JKNS)
