New Delhi, Apr 9 (JKNS): The President of India Droupadi Murmu has accorded assent to the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Act, 2026 (No. 9 of 2026), which has been published for general information in the Extraordinary Gazette.

According to the Gazette notification a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS states that, “the Central Armed Police Forces are performing important functions of national security and are deployed for securing borders and maintaining internal security of the Union and the States and connected matters. The Central Armed Police Forces are primarily armed troops performing armed duties in the field with strict command and control mechanism and a functional hierarchy. The operational and functional requirements of the Central Armed Police Forces are distinct from other organisations.”

The Gazette further states, “the recruitment and conditions of service of Group A General Duty Officers and other officers and members of the Central Armed Police Forces are governed by the rules made under the respective Acts specified in the First Schedule. The Central Armed Police Forces perform functions of national security in close coordination with State authorities. In the interest of maintaining Centre-State relationship and ensuring close coordination between the Union and the States, the Indian Police Service Officers are necessary for effective functioning of these forces. It is considered necessary to enact an umbrella law to regulate these aspects.”

The Act provides a comprehensive legal framework for recruitment, service conditions, and administrative regulations of CAPFs, while highlighting the importance of operational hierarchy, functional efficiency, and coordination with State authorities in maintaining national security.

The Gazette notification marks the formal enactment of the law and makes it publicly available for reference and implementation across the country.

The Act is intended “to regulate the general rules governing the recruitment and conditions of service of Group A General Duty Officers and other officers in the Central Armed Police Forces and other rules regarding these forces, and matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.” (JKNS)
