Budgam, Apr 11 (JKNS): The District Administration Budgam on Saturday formally launched the 100-day intensive “Nasha Mukht Abhiyan,” aimed at eliminating drug abuse and promoting a healthier, drug-free society. The UT-wide campaign has been initiated under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

In Budgam, the programme was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan along with SSP Budgam Hariprasad KK at the Drug De-Addiction Centre Budgam, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, District Information Centre, Health Department, and Police Department.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of a coordinated and sustained approach to tackle the growing drug menace. He stated that the campaign is not merely an awareness initiative but a comprehensive strategy encompassing prevention, enforcement, treatment, and rehabilitation.

He emphasized that drug abuse poses a serious threat to the social fabric, particularly affecting the youth, and called upon parents, teachers, civil society members, and community leaders to actively participate in the mission.

“Zero tolerance will be adopted against drug peddlers, while all necessary measures will be taken to rehabilitate affected youth and help them reintegrate into society,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner further noted that enforcement agencies have been directed to intensify action against drug trafficking networks, while healthcare institutions are being strengthened to provide accessible and effective de-addiction and rehabilitation services.

Following the inaugural session, the Deputy Commissioner inspected various sections of the Drug De-Addiction Centre Budgam and reviewed the facilities, treatment mechanisms, and rehabilitation services. He stressed the need for compassionate care, professional counselling, and continuous follow-up for successful recovery.

On the occasion, SSP Budgam also addressed the gathering and highlighted the steps taken by the police to curb drug abuse and bring drug peddlers to justice. He appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in this mission.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner, along with SSP Budgam and other senior officers, led a plantation drive at Boys Higher Secondary School Budgam, symbolising a commitment towards a greener environment and a drug-free future.

Addressing students, the Deputy Commissioner spoke about the harmful effects of drug abuse and urged the youth to stay away from such substances and act as ambassadors of positive change.

The programme was attended by senior district officials including the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Joint Director Planning, Chief Education Officer, Chief Medical Officer, District Information Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, and other officers.

The launch of this 100-day intensive campaign marks a significant step towards a mission-mode approach to eradicate drug abuse and ensure a safer and healthier future for the people of Budgam. (JKNS)
