Sopore, Apr 11 (JKNS): In view of increasing traffic congestion and public demand, the Additional District Magistrate Sopore has ordered implementation of a one-way traffic system within Sopore town on a trial basis to ensure smooth vehicular movement.

According to the order as per news agency JKNS, the one-way traffic shall ply from Ghanta Ghar to Shah Dargah Crossing via Main Chowk, while the return movement shall be from Degree College to Iqbal Market via Ghanta Ghar. The arrangement has been introduced with immediate effect on a trial basis from April 12 to April 15, 2026, officials said.

The order directs the Municipal Council Sopore to install barricades and signages at all key junctions and ensure deployment of staff for proper regulation. SDPO Sopore has been tasked with adequate deployment for enforcement of the system, while Traffic Police Baramulla will ensure smooth vehicular flow, particularly at Ghanta Ghar. Magistrates will also be deployed by the Tehsildar Sopore at key locations to maintain law and order.

The order further states that no vending activity shall be allowed from Ghanta Ghar to Shah Dargah Crossing, while illegal Sumo stands on main roads will be strictly regulated by ARTO Baramulla. Heavy vehicles will not be allowed entry into the town from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and buses plying towards Kupwara, Bandipora and Srinagar shall use the bypass route.

The administration has also invited public suggestions to improve the traffic arrangement, which will be reviewed after April 15, 2026 for further modifications, additions, or continuation of the system. — (JKNS)
