Budgam, Apr 21 (JKNS): The Zonal Physical Education Office.Hardapanzo–Khansahib, under the directions of the Department of Youth Services & Sports (YSS), Jammu & Kashmir, in collaboration with District Youth Services & Sports (DYSS) Budgam, successfully organized an Inter-School Zonal Level Cross Country Run on Tuesday.
The event was conducted as per the annual activity calendar issued by the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports, J&K.
The primary objective of the event was to promote a culture of sports and encourage youth participation in athletics. Students from various educational institutions across the zone participated enthusiastically, showcasing commendable sportsmanship and physical fitness.
The race commenced from Arizal Road and concluded at Higher Secondary School Hardapanzo Competitions were held in different categories including Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19.
The event was formally inaugurated by the DO Police Hardapanzo in the presence of officials from the Youth Services & Sports Department and other dignitaries. Representatives from various departments were also present on the occasion. Police personnel ensured smooth traffic regulation and security arrangements, contributing significantly to the successful and well-organized conduct of the event. The department extended special thanks to the police for their cooperation.
Speakers on the occasion emphasized the importance of hard work, discipline, and adopting a healthy lifestyle. At the concluding ceremony, certificates and medals were awarded to the students who displayed outstanding performance, bringing joy and motivation to the participants.
On the occasion, Altaf Ahmad Kataria stated that such programs are an integral part of the department’s annual calendar, aimed at strengthening sports culture and motivating youth towards physical activities. He further added that these initiatives reflect the department’s commitment to promoting fitness, discipline, and a healthy and responsible lifestyle among the younger generation.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Physical Education Teacher Ajaz Ahmad, who appreciated the efforts of all participants, officials, police personnel, and supporting staff for making the program a grand success.
A participating student, while speaking to the media, described the event as highly beneficial, stating that such activities not only encourage students to engage in sports but also help keep them away from negative influences, particularly drug abuse. She said, “Nowadays many young people are getting involved in drugs, but such sports activities guide us towards a positive path. We are very happy to have participated in today’s race and are thankful to the department for providing us this opportunity. It helps improve both our physical and mental health.”
Local residents also appreciated the efforts of the Youth Services & Sports Department, terming the event a positive step for youth development. They lauded the department for encouraging children towards sports and expressed hope for the continuation of such initiatives in the future. (JKNS)
