Srinagar, Apr 27 (JKNS): The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Monday quashed the Public Safety Act (PSA) detention of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mehraj Malik, bringing significant relief to the legislator who had been in preventive custody since September last year.
As per details available with news agency JKNS, the court annulled the detention order after hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Malik challenging his detention under the PSA.
Malik, representing Doda constituency and heading the AAP’s J&K unit, was detained on September 8, 2025, on allegations of activities prejudicial to public order and was later lodged in Kathua district jail.
The matter had been heard on several occasions, and the court had reserved its judgment on February 23 after completion of arguments from both sides.
Following the court’s decision, Malik is likely to be released after completion of necessary legal formalities, provided he is not required in any other case, sources said. (JKNS)
