Doda, May 03 (JKNS): The District Magistrate Doda, Krishan Lal, on Sunday imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), banning unauthorized gatherings in several areas of the district to maintain public order and safety.
According to an order issued by the Office of the District Magistrate Doda as per news agency JKNS, it was observed that some individuals were planning demonstrations and attempting to mobilize gatherings, raising apprehensions of untoward incidents that could disturb public peace and tranquility.
The order states that such unlawful assemblies were likely to take place at sensitive locations including Clock Tower Chowk near SSP Office Doda, the road leading to Sports Stadium up to Akramabad, and from Clock Tower to Old Bus Stand, which could obstruct movement of commuters and pose safety risks.
“In view of the prevailing law and order situation and to ensure safety of the general public, there is an urgent need to take preventive measures,” the order reads, adding that any gathering of five or more persons, protests or dharnas at public places in the specified areas shall remain strictly prohibited.
The restrictions will also apply within a radius of 100 meters from the JK Sports Stadium Doda, except for events already granted prior permission, it said.
The Senior Superintendent of Police Doda has been directed to implement the order in letter and spirit, while violators shall face action under Section 223 of BNSS, 2023.
The order, issued on May 03, 2026, will remain in force for a period of two months and has been promulgated for public information through official channels, including the district website and local notice boards. (JKNS)
