Srinagar, May 4 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said that the All India Inter-University Wushu Championship marks a defining moment for Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the spirit of unity, diversity, and sporting excellence.

Addressing participants as per news agency JKNS, LG Sinha welcomed over 1,000 athletes from more than 150 universities across the country, describing the event as a “landmark” not only for the region but for the entire nation.

“Welcome to Jammu and Kashmir, welcome to Srinagar. I invite you to experience the hospitality of this ancient city and the beauty of its landscapes, and to give your best in the spirit of competition,” he said.

He said the championship is not merely a sporting event but a celebration of peace, equality, and friendship. “More than medals and victories, it is about character, discipline, endurance, and mutual respect among young athletes,” he added.

Highlighting the role of sports in nation-building, Sinha said such events strengthen unity by bringing together youth from diverse cultures, languages, and regions. “When athletes step onto the mat, they speak a common language the language of courage, play, and respect,” he said.

Referring to the ongoing anti-drug campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor urged participants to act as ambassadors against substance abuse. “I appeal to the youth to shun drugs and embrace sports. You are role models for the new generation, and your voice can inspire many to choose the right path,” he said.

He also encouraged athletes to use social media to spread awareness by sharing short videos promoting a drug-free society.

“I want to appeal to all the athletes to join our Nasha Mukht Abhiyan and make a one-minute video and upload it on your social media platforms to send a wider message,” Sinha said.

Describing the event as a platform to build lasting bonds, Sinha said the championship should be remembered not just for competition but for the friendships it fosters and the unity it reinforces.

“Let it strengthen the idea of one compassionate and determined Indian family,” he added, wishing all participants success. (JKNS)
