Jammu/Srinagar, May 6 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has issued fresh guidelines for rationalization of rental charges and utilization of meeting and conference halls maintained by the Public Works (R&B) Department, aiming to boost non-tax revenue and ensure optimal use of public infrastructure.

As per news agency JKNS, the circular issued by Financial Commissioner (ACS) PWD Anil Kumar Singh stated that these halls, built with significant public investment, were underutilized and often rented at nominal rates, leading to poor revenue realization.

According to the new guidelines, meeting halls will be used for conferences, trainings, workshops, seminars and similar approved events by government departments, PSUs and central government organizations, including during weekends and off-hours. Allotments will be made on a transparent, first-come-first-serve basis.

The government has fixed uniform rental rates, with Rs 20,000 per event for PWD Guest House Gandhinagar Jammu and Banquet Hall M.A. Road Srinagar, while other district-level halls will be available at Rs 10,000 per event. Additionally, Rs 3,000 per meeting will be charged as maintenance and clearance fee.

The circular further directs that district-level nodal officers will monitor utilization and revenue, while Chief Engineers will conduct periodic reviews. All receipts must be deposited on the same day, and monthly reports detailing usage and revenue collection are to be submitted to ensure accountability. (JKNS)
