Srinagar, May 7 (JKNS): National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said he hopes the Supreme Court will ensure justice if the alleged irregularities and malpractices in the West Bengal elections are taken before the apex court.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the party’s provincial committee in Srinagar, as per news agency JKNS, Abdullah said several political leaders across the country have raised concerns over the poll results.
“Mamata Banerjee is raising questions, Akhilesh Yadav is raising questions, and many others are also expressing concern over the poll results. I hope the matter reaches the Supreme Court and justice is delivered,” he said.
Responding to a query regarding the opposition INDIA bloc, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said the alliance remains active and united. “The INDIA bloc is always operative and it will continue to function,” Abdullah said.
He further said that the provincial committee meeting discussed various organisational matters and ways to further strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, National Conference chief spokesman Tanvir Sadiq said the provincial committee meeting is held regularly every month to review party affairs and the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Discussions were held on party affairs, developmental activities and the overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” Sadiq told reporters.
On being asked whether cabinet expansion figured in the discussions, Sadiq said the issue was not taken up during the meeting as it falls under the prerogative of the Chief Minister.
“The Chief Minister will take a decision on cabinet expansion whenever he deems appropriate. The meeting focused mainly on party affairs, public issues and feedback from legislators,” he added. (JKNS)
