Srinagar, May 8 (JKNS): Continuing its intensified crackdown against narcotics cultivation, Anantnag Police on Thursday formally arrested two women in separate cases related to illegal opium poppy cultivation under the NDPS Act in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
As per news agency JKNS, Anantnag Police has formally arrested two women accused in separate NDPS cases related to illicit opium poppy cultivation.
In the first case, Dilshada W/O Sheikh Musa Qazim R/O Wullarhama, involved in FIR No. 27/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act of Police Station Pahalgam, was formally arrested. The case was registered after illegal poppy cultivation was detected on her land and destroyed as per legal procedure.
In the second case, Naseema, widow of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir R/O Sofi Pora, involved in FIR No. 31/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act of Police Station Pahalgam, was formally arrested following investigation into illegal poppy cultivation on land under her possession.
Both arrests were made after completion of requisite legal formalities and verification of their involvement in cultivation of contraband crops in violation of the NDPS Act.
Anantnag Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy towards cultivation, trafficking and abuse of narcotic substances. The drive against illegal poppy cultivation shall continue with full force across the district. (JKNS)
