LSrinagar, May 14 (JKNS): Warning Pakistan-based narco handlers and local drug kingpins of strict action, Director General of Police on Thursday said has launched an aggressive and sustained crackdown under the “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan,” resulting in massive seizures, arrests, property attachments and demolition of illegal assets linked to the narcotics trade across the Union Territory.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, DGP Prabhat as per news agency JKNS said, the Jammu and Kashmir police has achieved major achievements under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan,” stating that the anti-drug campaign has witnessed unprecedented success during the past one month.

The DGP said that between April 11 and May 12, 2026, police registered 724 NDPS cases and arrested 806 persons involved in narcotics trafficking, marking a nearly seven-fold increase compared to the corresponding period last year.

He said 667 kilograms of narcotic substances and over 19,000 units of psychotropic substances were seized during the intensified crackdown, while 24 habitual drug offenders were booked under PIT-NDPS.

Highlighting the financial crackdown on the narcotics network, the DGP said police identified and attached 97 properties worth ₹41.85 crore linked with drug trafficking. He termed the attachment of properties worth ₹6.17 crore by Anantnag Police as the biggest single-case attachment so far. He further said that for the first time, J&K Police attached properties outside the Union Territory in Punjab’s Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts and Chandigarh UT, while Kulgam Police attached property worth ₹2.93 crore in Jammu.

Nalin Prabhat said police also demolished 41 illegal properties worth nearly ₹15 crore constructed through proceeds of narcotics trade after following due legal process. He added that illicit cultivation of poppy and cannabis spread over 117 kanals of land was destroyed during the campaign.

The DGP said awareness and sensitization remained a key component of the campaign, with 2,401 programmes conducted across schools, colleges and identified hotspots covering nearly three lakh participants. He added that focused inspections of pharmaceutical establishments led to checking of 5,238 druggists and chemists, while action was initiated against 151 erring establishments.

He further said police secured court orders for disposal of vehicles involved in narcotics-related offences in districts including Anantnag, Kathua, Reasi, Jammu and Awantipora, while 4,962 kilograms of narcotics and 6,493 psychotropic units were disposed of.

The DGP informed that 162 driving licences and 92 vehicle registration certificates were cancelled or suspended during the campaign, while recommendations for impounding 10 passports were also made.

Referring to the broader annual performance, the DGP said J&K Police has maintained consistent progress under all anti-narcotics parameters since 2023. He stated that the value of attached properties increased twelve-fold between 2023 and 2026, while J&K ranked third nationwide in property attachment cases during 2025 and secured first position in PIT-NDPS detentions with 240 preventive detentions last year.

He reiterated that the fight against narcotics and organized drug networks would continue with full intensity and warned drug peddlers and their facilitators of strict action under law. (JKNS)
