New Delhi, May 15 (JKNS): The Ministry of Finance on Friday issued fresh notifications revising Central Excise duty rates on petrol and diesel, with the new rates set to come into effect from May 16, 2026.
According to notifications issued by the Department of Revenue, as per news agency JKNS, the Central Government amended earlier notifications dated March 26, 2026, in exercise of powers conferred under Section 5A of the Central Excise Act, 1944, read with Section 147 of the Finance Act, 2002.
Under Notification No. 22/2026-Central Excise, the excise duty on one category of petroleum product has been revised to Rs 3 per litre, while another category has been fixed at Rs 16.5 per litre.
In a separate Notification No. 23/2026-Central Excise, the government revised the excise duty rate for another category of fuel to Rs 16 per litre. (JKNS)
