Srinagar, May 16 (JKNS): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy on Saturday urged youth to actively participate in sports and constructive activities while staying away from drugs, social media addiction and other negative influences.
Speaking during an inter-college cricket tournament organised by the district administration, Chakravarthy, according to news agency JKNS, appreciated the initiative and said such sporting events provide an important platform for youth to channelise their energy positively.
“We are very happy to be here at the inter-college cricket tournament organised by the district administration. I thank the administration, colleges and organisers for starting this wonderful initiative. It gives youth an opportunity to display their talent and engage in constructive activities,” the SSP said.
Referring to the ongoing anti-drug campaign, he said the country-wide movement against narcotics requires active youth participation in sports and academics.
“Our youth are the future of the country. They should remain busy in libraries and playgrounds and stay away from negative energies like excessive social media use, mobile phone addiction and drugs,” he said.
The SSP added that cricket and other sports help develop discipline, team spirit and character among young people, besides keeping them engaged in healthy competition.
He assured participants that Jammu and Kashmir Police and Srinagar Police will continue supporting youth-oriented sports and social initiatives.
Speaking on the issue of online sale and misuse of medicines, Chakravarthy said police and district authorities have intensified monitoring of online medicine platforms and warned strict action against those involved in illegal activities.
“A number of licences have already been cancelled and we will act more aggressively in future. We are conducting surveillance and keeping a close watch. This is a strict warning to those involved in such activities stay away from these illegal practices or strict action will follow,” he said. (JKNS)
