Budgam, May 19 (JKNS): Darakhshan Andrabi on Tuesday said the campaign against narco-terror in Jammu and Kashmir must evolve into a mass movement, asserting that drug networks have operated alongside terrorism in the region since 1989 and now pose a grave threat to society.

“J&K has to be part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat mission of the Prime Minister. The mission against Narco-terror has to become a mass movement in J&K. It will take time to eradicate this menace from the society. But consistent and strong actions only can pave way for success”, said Dr Darakhshan.

She also reminded that it was J&K Waqf Board which started the movement two years back inJ&K and the Imams & Khateebs of Waqf Board managed mosques ans shrines are regularly speaking against this drug menace.

“There are many people in our rotten political systems who have objected to strong punishments to drug peddlers, there are others who are presenting deviating narratives only to subortage this mass movement. But the majority population has stood up against this menace under LG’s leadership and the police is doing a wonderful job”, said Andrabi.

She also emphasised on the need for public awareness about the environment friendly lifestyle to be adopted for a clean environment around us.

“J&K is a hill area and it’s environ is very fragile. We have to adopt environ-friendly ways of life to maintain proper environment for our future existence and sustainance”, said Waqf Board Chairperson. Addressing the event BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul said that social transformation was a must for a successful life. He streesed on the need of preserving our cultural traditions and social morals for our young generation.

“Kashmir’s harmonious cultural existence is based on the shared values accross different religious and linguistic donains. We need to create a drug free, peaceful and tolerant future generation so that our cultural identity remains in harmony with the changing world requirements “, said Ashok Koul. Both the leaders interacted with the media after the programme. Religious preacher Maulana Owais Qadiri also addressed the gathering. (JKNS)
