Srinagar, May 20 (JKNS): A major fire incident broke out in Maloora Khuji Bagh area of Srinagar on Wednesday afternoon, gutting a showroom and leaving a firefighter injured during the rescue and firefighting operation.

Officials told news agency JKNS that the fire call was received by the State Fire Control Room Batamaloo at around 2:16 PM, following which multiple fire tenders from Fire Station Mujgund, Fire & Emergency Services Headquarters, Fire Station Safakadal and Fire Station JVC Veer were rushed to the spot.

They said the fire engulfed a showroom structure comprising wooden, iron and GCI sheet roofing, causing extensive damage to hardware items, ply boards and kitchenware stored inside the premises.

During the operation, a firefighter identified as SGFM Tanveer Ahmad, Incharge Fire Station JVC Veer, sustained injuries while battling the flames and was immediately shifted to JVC Hospital for treatment.

Officials said fire personnel displayed bravery and professionalism during the operation and, after intense efforts, managed to bring the blaze under control before launching cooling operations to prevent further spread of the fire.

The firefighting operation was supervised by ADGP Fire & Emergency Services Alok Kumar (IPS), while several senior officials also remained present at the site to monitor the situation.

Officials further said that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and an investigation has been initiated. No loss of life was reported in the incident. (JKNS)
