Budgam, May 24 (JKNS): Senior leader of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian Budgam, Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas Mousavi, has urged the administration to lift restrictions on the historic Ashura procession through Lal Chowk, review the cases of youth detained in connection with Muharram-related religious activities, and withdraw all cases and legal actions against those who participated in peaceful protests.
Addressing a public gathering and a meeting of the Zonal Committee of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian at Sonpah, Beerwah, Aga Mujtaba Abbas Mousavi said that the administration should take practical and effective measures to ensure the protection of religious rights and freedoms during the holy month of Muharram. He stated that the historic Ashura procession passing through Lal Chowk remains an important symbol of the religious sentiments and devotion of the Shia community and should not face unnecessary restrictions.
He said that although the government claims to make adequate arrangements for religious gatherings, it is equally important to ensure the effective implementation of such measures on the ground and establish a mechanism to address public concerns and grievances.
Aga Mujtaba Abbas Mousavi further said that many young people associated with Muharram congregations, processions and other religious activities are facing difficulties due to various legal cases and restrictions. He called upon the authorities to review such matters on humanitarian and legal grounds and provide relief to those who are not involved in any serious offence.
Referring to recent protests held in different places to express devotion and solidarity with Supreme Leader Ayatollah al-Uzma Sayyid Ali Khamenei, he said that the gatherings and demonstrations were entirely peaceful in nature. According to reports, cases have been registered against several participating youth and legal proceedings are continuing against them. He urged the administration to withdraw such cases and actions and allow the youth to continue their normal lives without unnecessary hardship.
Aga Mujtaba Abbas Mousavi said that Ayatollah al-Uzma Sayyid Ali Khamenei is regarded by millions around the world as a distinguished religious and spiritual authority, and the sentiments of those attached to him should be respected. He added that whenever any distressing news or incident concerning a revered religious personality emerges, public expressions of emotion are natural and should be viewed in that context.
He reiterated his appeal for a fresh review of all cases and legal actions against youth who participated in peaceful protests and called for the withdrawal of measures that could adversely affect their future and everyday lives.
