Srinagar, May 27 (JKNS): Eid-ul-Adha was celebrated with religious fervour and enthusiasm across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, with thousands of devotees gathering at Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar and other major Eidgahs and shrines across the Valley to offer special Eid prayers amid elaborate security and administrative arrangements.
Details available with news agency JKNS, At Hazratbal shrine, one of the largest congregations was witnessed as worshippers from different parts of Kashmir assembled since early morning to participate in the Eid prayers.
Special prayers were held for peace, prosperity and wellbeing of the people, while religious speakers during sermons supported Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha-led 100-day Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan.
Speakers further urged administration to impose a ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir.
Across the Valley, “Eid congregations concluded peacefully at all district headquarters under tight security and coordinated arrangements put in place by police and civil administration”, an official told JKNS.
Meanwhile, Srinagar Police marked the occasion by distributing sweets among people to promote communal harmony, brotherhood and public goodwill.
SSP Srinagar Dr. Sundeep Chakravarthy personally participated in the gesture, accompanied by SP Hazratbal Hilal Khaliq and DySP Aashiq Hussain, while police officials extended Eid greetings to worshippers and members of the public.
Officials said elaborate arrangements related to security, traffic management, sanitation, health services and public convenience were put in place to ensure smooth conduct of Eid prayers across Kashmir.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with his father and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah, also attended Eid-ul-Adha prayers at Hazratbal shrine. PDP President Mehbooba Mufti was also present during the Eid prayers at the revered shrine. (JKNS)
