Anantnag, Jun 2 (JKNS): A man lost his life while his wife sustained critical injuries after a massive tree, uprooted by strong winds, fell on them near the Ganjiwara area of Anantnag town on Tuesday, officials said.

Officials told news agency JKNS that the tree collapsed amid gusty weather conditions, disrupting traffic movement on the busy Lal Chowk–Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag road. Police and emergency agencies immediately launched clearance operations and restored vehicular movement on one side of the road.

The injured couple was identified as Mohammad Rafiq Kujwal and his wife Marina, residents of Brariangan in Shangus area of Anantnag district. Both were rushed to GMC Anantnag for treatment after the incident.

However, doctors declared Mohammad Rafiq dead shortly after his admission, while his wife continues to battle for life and remains in critical condition, officials said.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further proceedings are underway. (JKNS)
