Srinagar, June 2 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) on Tuesday honoured noted poet, writer, translator, researcher, critic and broadcaster Dr. Satish Vimal at a special “Meet the Eminent Writer” programme held at the Akashvani Srinagar Auditorium, drawing prominent literary, cultural and media personalities from across the Valley.

As per news agency JKNS, The event was presided over by Padma Shri awardee and eminent scholar Prof. Shafi Shouq, while Director Prasar Bharati and Head of Akashvani Srinagar Gurbinder Singh attended as Chief Guest. Additional Secretary JKAACL Ideel Saleem, researcher Ghulam Nabi Haleem, Dr. Satish Vimal and Editor English JKAACL Dr. Abid Ahmad were also present on the dais.

Addressing the gathering, speakers described Dr. Satish Vimal as one of the most influential contemporary literary voices whose contributions span poetry, criticism, translation, research and broadcasting. They highlighted his role in enriching literary discourse and promoting human values through his writings.

A detailed paper on Dr. Vimal’s life and achievements was presented by Ghulam Nabi Haleem, while noted singer Munir Ahmad Mir rendered musical adaptations of Dr. Vimal’s poetry, earning appreciation from the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Satish Vimal expressed gratitude to JKAACL for recognising his literary journey and said literature had remained the defining force of his life. He reflected on his experiences as a writer and broadcaster, describing creative writing as a continuous process of learning and self-discovery.

Chief Guest Gurbinder Singh said Akashvani shared a decades-long association with Dr. Vimal, whose contributions as both a broadcaster and literary figure have left a lasting impact on public discourse and cultural awareness.

In his presidential remarks, Prof. Shafi Shouq said Dr. Vimal occupies a distinguished place in contemporary literary circles and has inspired generations through writings rooted in cultural consciousness, humanity and social values.

The programme also featured an interactive session where participants engaged with Dr. Vimal on his literary career, creative influences, broadcasting experiences and interactions with eminent writers. He encouraged young writers to cultivate reading habits and use literature as a medium to promote harmony and positive social change.

The proceedings were conducted by broadcaster Rashid Nizami, while Dr. Abid Ahmad presented the vote of thanks. The event witnessed participation from a large number of writers, poets, scholars, students, journalists and literature enthusiasts from different parts of Kashmir. (JKNS)
