Srinagar, Jun 6 (JKNS):
Ruling National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq has strongly objected to a recent review meeting of a centrally funded institution chaired by a person who is not an elected representative, terming it a “wrong precedent” and alleging that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has historically acted at the behest of New Delhi.

Speaking to media persons as per news agency JKNS, Tanvir said, such a review meeting should ordinarily be chaired by the Chief Minister or a minister holding the relevant portfolio.

“Even during the tenures of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah as Chief Ministers, such practices never existed,” he said.

NC leader alleged that the timing of the meeting was questionable, claiming it coincided with a planned visit by nearly 50 NC legislators to New Delhi to seek restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and constitutional rights.

“There is reason to believe that the strings may be controlled from elsewhere. It appears to be an attempt to divert attention from the real political and constitutional issues facing Jammu and Kashmir,” Tanvir said.

The leader also targeted the PDP’s political history, noting that the NC passed its autonomy resolution in 1999, the same year the PDP was formed.

“Since its inception, the PDP has functioned at the behest of New Delhi,” he alleged.

Taking a dig at PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, the NC leader said that if she was genuinely interested in political unity, she would not have publicly shared on social media a letter addressed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

He further referred to the PDP-BJP alliance between 2014 and 2018, claiming that the agenda associated with that coalition remained “unfinished” even after 2019.

There has been no official response from the PDP to the remarks so far. (JKNS)
