Kupwara, Jun 6 (JKNS): World Environment Day(JKNS) celebrated on 05 June 2026 with a series of community-driven initiatives focused on conservation and sustainability of environment across Kupwara district.

The day commenced with a cleanliness drive at Hirri Nallah of Hirri village, where soldiers joined hands with local residents. The joint team cleared garbage and plastic waste from the nallah, reaffirming their shared commitment to environmental stewardship and adoption of eco-friendly practices. This drive was attended by more than 120 soldiers and civilians.

In a parallel initiative, troops of Gulgam Camp undertook a cleanliness drive at the popular tourist site in Wayne Forest, Kachra Mode. Approximately 25 soldiers, led by the Gulgam Company Commander, restored the area’s natural beauty. This was followed by a plantation drive in Gulgam and Wayne Forest areas, where *500 Deodar saplings* were planted to enhance green cover and prevent soil erosion.

The initiatives drew wide appreciation from the local populace, who thanked the soldiers for their continued efforts in preserving the fragile ecology of the region. (JKNS)
