Budgam, Jun 15 (JKNS): In a significant educational initiative, Bab-ul-Ilm Library-cum-Reading Point was formally inaugurated at Magam in Budgam district by MLA Beerwah, Dr. Mohammad Shafi Ahmad.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mirwaiz Central Kashmir Molvi Syed Abdul Latif Bukhari, prominent social and religious personalities, local elders, students, and a large gathering of youth.

The modern library and reading point has been established by renowned educationist Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad with the aim of promoting reading culture, research, knowledge, and intellectual development among the younger generation.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mohammad Shafi Ahmad said that libraries form the intellectual foundation of every civilized and progressive society.

He urged young people to make full use of the facility, develop reading habits, and engage in constructive activities.

Speaking on the occasion, Molvi Syed Abdul Latif Bukhari emphasized that education, knowledge, and research are the true pathways to progress and prosperity.

He said that institutions like Bab-ul-Ilm would play a vital role in the educational and moral development of the younger generation.

The library has been equipped with modern facilities, including separate study cabins for male and female students, internet access, and adequate heating and cooling systems to ensure a comfortable and conducive learning environment throughout the year.

In his address, Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad stated that Bab-ul-Ilm is not merely a library but a social and educational mission.

“I did not establish this institution as a business venture; it is purely a project dedicated to education and social service,” he said.

Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad highlighted several unique welfare initiatives incorporated into the project. One out of every ten study cabins has been permanently reserved for talented, deserving, and financially disadvantaged students who cannot afford the fees. Such students will be able to use the facility free of cost throughout the year.

He further announced that students preparing for competitive examinations and other academic pursuits who are unable to purchase study materials will be provided with essential notes, paper discussions, and other educational resources in digital format.

According to Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad, the library will regularly host seminars, workshops, and training programmes featuring doctors, engineers, educationists, and successful professionals from various fields. These sessions will provide guidance to students regarding academics, career development, and personal growth.

He added that student counselling and mentorship form an important part of the initiative. Youth associated with the library will be encouraged to become “Ambassadors of Knowledge” and help spread awareness about education, reading culture, and the need to stay away from social evils such as drug abuse.

Reflecting on his professional experience in the fields of health and education, Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad said that he had realized that true societal progress can only be achieved through education.

He disclosed that approximately Rs 15 lakh had been invested in the project. “Had my objective been financial gain, I could have started a business with the same investment. However, my priority is community service and creating better educational opportunities for our youth,” he remarked.

Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad also recalled his commitment to continue serving society after retirement and said that Bab-ul-Ilm Library is the practical realization of that promise. He further announced plans to establish an even larger and more advanced library in Beerwah in the future.

Local residents welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that Bab-ul-Ilm Library would strengthen the educational environment of the area and play a significant role in encouraging youth towards learning, research, and positive social engagement. (JKNS) No
