Srinagar, Jun 19 (JKNS): Two youths from Ganderbal district have started a nearly 900-kilometre foot march to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and raise issues of unemployment and growing drug abuse among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

The youths, residents of Yarmuqam village in Ganderbal, began their journey with the aim of drawing the Prime Minister’s attention to challenges faced by young people, particularly the lack of employment opportunities.

Speaking before commencing the march, as per news agency JKNS, they said unemployment was emerging as a major concern in Jammu and Kashmir and was contributing to social issues, including substance abuse among youth.

They also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Pahari community and said they hoped to personally convey their appreciation during the proposed meeting in New Delhi.

The duo further highlighted the need for creating employment avenues for educated youth and daily-wage workers and advocated for the development of tourism infrastructure in Ganderbal to generate livelihood opportunities.

Despite the long distance and prevailing heat conditions, the youths said they were determined to complete the journey and present their concerns directly before the Prime Minister. (JKNS)
