Anantnag, June 27 (JKNS): In a landmark development for the media fraternity of South Kashmir, noted journalist Ishfaq Wagay has been elected as the Vice President of the Breng Journalists Association during the association’s Executive Body elections held at Kokernag on Saturday.

The election was conducted in a peaceful, transparent, and democratic atmosphere, witnessing enthusiastic participation from journalists representing different areas of the Breng region. The event marked a new chapter for the association as members unanimously expressed their confidence in a leadership committed to the welfare of journalists and the promotion of responsible journalism.

Alongside Ishfaq Wagay’s election as Vice President, Mansoor Naik was elected as the President, while Shafeequl Islam was chosen as the General Secretary of the association.

Widely known for his fearless reporting, commitment to ethical journalism, and dedication to highlighting public issues, Ishfaq Wagay has earned respect within the journalistic community through his work with JKNS News Agency and the Daily Gadyal newspaper. His election is being viewed as a recognition of his sincerity, professionalism, and continuous efforts to serve society through responsible journalism.

The election process was held under the supervision of DySP Kokernag, Arif Hussain Malik, who oversaw the entire polling procedure to ensure transparency and fairness. Following the successful completion of the voting process, he formally handed over the certificates of victory to the newly elected office bearers.

Speaking after being declared elected, Vice President Ishfaq Wagay expressed his heartfelt gratitude to every member of the association for placing their trust and confidence in him. He described the election as a celebration of unity and collective responsibility rather than a contest between individuals.

“This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every journalist who believes in unity, integrity, and the dignity of our profession. I sincerely thank all members of the Breng Journalists Association for their trust and support. I accept this responsibility with humility and pledge to work tirelessly for the welfare of journalists and society.”

He further stated that the association would work towards protecting the rights and dignity of journalists, promoting ethical and responsible journalism, and strengthening the voice of media professionals across the region.

“I will always remain available to every journalist whenever their rights are violated or their professional dignity is challenged. My doors will remain open to all members without any discrimination. Together, we will build a stronger, more united, and more effective association dedicated to serving journalists as well as the people of Jammu & Kashmir,” he said.

Wagay also emphasized that journalism is not merely a profession but a public responsibility that demands honesty, courage, and commitment to truth. He called upon journalists to maintain the highest standards of ethics, impartiality, and professionalism while performing their duties.

Members of the association congratulated the newly elected Executive Body and expressed optimism that the new leadership would work collectively to address the concerns of journalists, strengthen unity within the media fraternity, promote press freedom, and create a supportive environment for media professionals.

The successful conduct of the election reflects the democratic values upheld by the Breng Journalists Association and reinforces its commitment to empowering journalists, encouraging responsible reporting, and contributing positively to the development of society. The newly elected leadership is expected to initiate various welfare measures, capacity-building programmes, and constructive initiatives aimed at safeguarding the interests of journalists and further strengthening the role of the media in Jammu & Kashmir.
